Cristóbal Galán

Cristóbal Galán (* 1625, † September 24, 1684 in Madrid) was a Spanish composer of the Baroque.

Life

Cristóbal Galán was from 1653 to singer and organist, later Kapellmeister in Cagliari in Sardinia, 1656-1559 Kapellmeister in Morella. He then lived in a now unknown position in Madrid. From 1664 to 1667 he was the choir director at the Cathedral of Segovia, 1667, he was music director of the Convent of Las Descalzas Reales in Madrid. 1680 he was appointed Kapellmeister at the Spanish royal court.

Work

Cristóbal Galán created incidental music for listed at the Spanish court spectacles, of which only fragments as individual arias or choruses have been handed down, which show the influence of the Roman Baroque significantly. Get Numerous villancicos and other spiritual and secular song forms from one to 13 votes, masses, motets, a Requiem and other sacred music, chamber music for strings in the Italian style in the form of solo, trio, quartet and octet sonatas. His work has been used in numerous musical manuscripts from the 17th century from Spain and Latin America. John H. Baron was obtained Galán's works from 1991 to 2004 in ten volumes out.
