Cristoforo Caresana

Cristofaro Caresana (* around 1640 in Venice, † 1709 in Naples) was an Italian composer of the Baroque.

After Caresana had studied in Venice under Pietro Andrea Ziani, he moved to Naples. There he was first in the theater and opera company " Feblarmonici " active, these troops led the first melodrama in Naples. 1667 Caresana organist in the court chapel and director of the Conservatorio S. Onofrio, a position which he held until 1699. In 1699 he was followed by Francesco Provenzale as maestro del Tesoro di San Gennaro. Cristofaro Caresana composed until his death for various Neapolitan institutions and events. His compositional output includes numerous cantatas, especially for the Christmas season.
