Critical pedagogy

As a critical educational science emerged in the 1960s towards education scientific theory is referred. The scientific understanding of this flow goes back to the mindset of Critical Theory. It was created against the elderly Humanities pedagogy and also differentiates itself from the empirical educational science. Central to their understanding of education is the emancipatory interest in greater self-determination.

Education in the Context of Critical Theory

After the claim of critical educational science education should be such that mature and critical subjects would be formed, which can also transform the society by emancipatory aspects. Individual " coming of age " thus depends on society as a whole. In the 1970s, the Critical Education took the turn of the relevant philosopher Jürgen Habermas 's discourse theory with: Educational objectives must be determined in the social discourse, as Klaus Mollenhauer and later Wolfgang Klafki. Based on Claus Offe education is indeed seen as a function of economic and political conditions, but also conceded their relative autonomy. Especially with Klafki didactics is determined as "critical - constructive didactics " in a practical action level. Another pulse has promoted in the educational history of the turn of the history of ideas on the social history of education. At the reception of symbolic interactionism qualitative social research in education was revived. However, the attraction of Critical Education ebbed with the waning fascination with theories of social change since the 1980s. The " empirical turn" of pedagogy was, inter alia, supported by the criticism of the lack of precision of the terms in the critical educational science.

Since then, the empirical pedagogy, especially through the large educational tests such as TIMSS or PISA studies came to the fore, have representative of Critical Education in the blind spots this view of education through: eg Horst Rumpf.
