Crittenden County (Kentucky)

The Crittenden County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. In 2010, the County had 9315 inhabitants and a population density of 9.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Marion, which was named after Francis Marion, a general in the American Revolutionary War. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in western Kentucky, is bordered to the northwest by the State of Illinois, separated by the Ohio River and has an area of 961 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water surface. At the Crittenden County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Crittenden County was formed on January 26, 1842 from parts of Livingston County. It was named after John J. Crittenden (1786-1863), a former Governor of Kentucky ( 1848-1850 ).
