Crna Trava

Crna Trava ( Serbian Cyrillic Црна Трава ) is a small village with about 563 inhabitants and the administrative seat of Crna Trava Opština just a few kilometers from the Bulgarian border in southwest Serbia.

Geography

Crna Trava is a mountain village with at an altitude of about 1000 meters above sea level. It lies in the valley of the Vlasina about ten kilometers north of the dam of the Vlasinasees. History

The village's name means " black grass ". The origin of the name is a legend, traced back to 1389, when the battle took place on the field of Kosovo. An army unit consisting of archers and horsemen decided on the way to the battlefield, to rest on a grass field. The poisonous plants of the field stunned the soldiers so that they could not attend in time to the battle. When they realized this, they cursed the grass that she had poisoned, and called it black grass.
