Croatian National Theatre in Mostar

The Croatian National Theatre in Mostar ( Croatian: Croatian Narodno Kazalište - HNK u Mostaru ) is located in the city of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was founded in 1994 as a Croatian counterpart to the since 1949 existing on the left, Bosniak side of the Neretva National Theatre Mostar with the aim of promoting Croatian culture for about 40,000 Croatian inhabitants of the town and was the first Croatian theater in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

History

The theater was founded on 22 September 1994. On 30 January 1996 the foundation stone for a new theater building was laid on the site of a former department store, which was destroyed during the 1993 war. The first phase was completed in 2002. Since then, the ensemble performs on a small stage in the basement.

The theater has 25 permanent employees. Half of the budget is provided by the state, the rest must be earned by sponsors and admission fees. It offers 127 spectators.
