Crocin is a natural, yellow to orange-red dye, found in plants, especially in different Crocus and Gardeniaarten and belongs to the class of carotenoids.
The dye is an ester of the double- sugar gentiobiose crocetin with the dicarboxylic acid and water soluble.
According to a study from 2008 aphrodiserende properties in laboratory rats were detected for crocin. Furthermore, were antiproliferative in experiments determined antioxidant and potentially antidepressant effects of Crocins.
