Croignon

Croignon is a commune of 510 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Gironde department in the region of Aquitaine. It lies in the catchment area of ​​the city of Bordeaux, in the canton in the Arrondissement Bordeaux Creon.

Geography

Croignon located in the southwest of France in the region of Entre -deux-mers between the rivers Garonne and Dordogne, 21 km east of Bordeaux, the capital of the Aquitaine region, and 5.2 kilometers north of the canton capital Creon, on an average height of 65 meters above sea level. The village is surrounded by the neighboring communities Baron, Cursan and Camarsac. The municipal area is hilly and has an area of 4.62 square kilometers. It is not only dominated by agriculture and viticulture, but also has wooded areas and valley meadows. The Gestas flows through the community. It is a tributary of the Dordogne, and is classified as an important reserve in the Natura 2000 network.

Culture and sights

The Romanesque parish church of Saint -Vincent was built in the 12th century. In the 16th century the nave was enlarged. Porch, bell tower and sacristy were built in 1857. The building was registered in 1945 in the Additional List of Monuments historiques ( historical monuments '). A graveyard cross from the 16th century to the cemetery at the church is also entered in the list of monuments. A church bell was cast in 1636 in bronze. It was classified in 1942 as a monument historique. The Rectory dates from the 16th century.

The mansion Château Lartigue - Cedars was built in the mid 19th century in the style of classicism. The stables date from the 18th century. The mansion is privately owned and used as a winery. The winery produces red and rosé wines of the Appellation Bordeaux, also Clairet, Sauvignon and Crémant Rosé.

In the hamlet of Le Grand Moulin is a private club dedicated to the restoration of a water mill dating from the 11th century.
