Cromford

Cromford is a village in Derbyshire, situated on the River Derwent, with great industry historical significance, since the cradle of the Industrial Revolution is seen.

Richard Arkwright built there in 1771, the first cotton mill in the world, in which he used the he developed water- power driven water frame and revolutionized the cotton mill. The factory is as Masson Mill now part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.

A district of the Rhineland city of Ratingen, in which over 10 years later with the textile factory Cromford based on the factory Arkwright's the world's first factory outside of England was, is today named after Cromford.
