Crooked Forest

The Crooked Forest is a natural monument with an area of ​​approximately 1.7 ha, located in the vicinity of a new settlement of the village of Nowe Czarnowo (municipality Gryfino ) and the power plant Lower Or, in the powiat Gryfiński ( West Pomeranian Voivodeship ) is in Poland. Through this area the red trail Gryfino ( Pommern ) to Mieszkowice leads ( Bärwalde ).

The area was given the name because about 400 deformed pine trees growing in it. These trees are curved approximately 20 cm above the ground to some 90 °. In some trees, the curvature extends to a height of 3 m. The trees are about 11-12 m high. The age is estimated to be about 70 to 80 years.

The most common theory is that the trees were purposely designed by people they attracted specifically for carpenters purposes, such as the construction of furniture, ships and the like.
