Cropani
Cropani is an Italian town in the province of Catanzaro in Calabria with 4393 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).
Location and data
Cropani is about 5 km from the sea, 35 km east of Catanzaro. The neighboring municipalities are Andali, Botricello, Cerva, Sellia Marina and Sersale.
History
Cropani was founded in the 10th century. The place belonged to the county Belcastro. In the 16th century the town was destroyed by the Turks. When the earthquake in 1783 the building was badly damaged.
Attractions
The cathedral dates from the 15th century. It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The Church of S. Luca has a remarkable wooden ceiling and Einbogenfenster. The collegiate church dates from the 14th century. Near the village there are salt springs.
