Cross County, Arkansas
The Cross County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is in Wynne.
Geography
The County is located in northeastern Arkansas and the east is about 50 km from the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Tennessee. The Cross County has an area of 1612 square kilometers, including 17 square miles of water. In a north-south direction the County is drained by the Saint Francis River. The Cross County was formed on November 15, 1862 from parts of Crittenden County, Poinsett County and the St. Francis County. It was named after David Cross, a colonel in the Confederate army.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2010 lived in Cross County 17,870 people in 6638 households. The population density was 11.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 6638 households lived statistically 2.69 per person.
The racial the population was composed of 75.4 percent white, 22.6 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 0.5 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.1 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 1.5 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
24.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 59.5 percent were between 18 and 64 and 15.9 percent were 65 years or older. 51.7 percent of the population was female.
