Crosscut saw

The fox tail is a saw with a short, broad blade, which gets its stiffness by a corresponding leaf thickness and width. The fox tail saws depending on sheet either only to shear (DIN 7244) or to shear and train. As the material has proven itself both for the blade body and for the tool steel teeth, but are also bimetal blades with tough blade body and hard cutting or with carbide inserts tipped saws in use. The twist for the cutting free of the sheet is generated in most cases by alternately bending the teeth.

The fox tail is mainly used in the household and for cutting large panels. He does not have a thickened ridge such as the razor saw.

Some artists use the fox tail as a musical instrument, usually in a large version, which is also called whipsaw. With a violin bow encourage the blade to vibrate and by more or less severe bending of the blade pitch is varied. This is called the " singing saw ".
