Crossen an der Elster

Crossen an der Elster is a municipality in the northeast of the Saale- wood country - circle near Eisenberg and is the seat of the administrative community heath - Elster - Schkölen.

Geography

Crossen is situated at the mouth of Rauda in the Weisse Elster, near the border with Saxony -Anhalt.

Neighboring communities

Adjacent communities are Hartmann village ( in Eisenberg ), heathland, Rauda and Silbitz in the Saale- Holzland and Wetterzeube in Saxony-Anhalt castle district.

Community structure

To Crossen the districts Ahlendorf include ( first mentioned in 1378 ), Tauchlitz ( first mention September 20, 1271 ) and nickel village ( Crossen an der Elster ) ( first mention of April 4, 1109 ). However, these do not own town council.

History

On March 31, 995 Crossen was first mentioned.

In Crossener manor forest have eight visible grave hill towards the Neolithic settlement. The tombs belonged to a burial ground of eleven hills.

The Crossen castle stood north of the opening into the Elster Rauda above the left bank of the White Elster. It was built on behalf of the bishops of Naumburg - Zeitz to protect the Elstertales. Already 995 Crossen in Gau Pozowa was mentioned. Now stands on the site of the castle Crossen, built by the Lords of tungsten village. The keep and two artificial moats are still witnesses of the previous system.

In the district of the district nickel village is called the projection of the West Mühlberg " Nickelsburg ". This " castle " is one of the most impressive early medieval plants. Culture and sights

The main attraction of the place is the baroque castle Crossen, which is not open to the public but currently.

Furthermore, the renovated church of St. Michael, which was mentioned in 1320 for the first time, a major influence on the village.

Historical monuments

At the cemetery, stands in front of an old linden tree a monument that commemorates the revolutionaries of 1848, built in 1948.

In addition to the school is located in a small park which was built in the GDR era monument to the victims of fascism. It is reminiscent of the resistance fighters of the community. Traffic

The place has two breakpoints ( Crossen and Crossen an der Elster place ) on the railway line from Gera to Leipzig. A rail link to Eisenberg existed until 1998.
