Tiger Rattlesnake ( Crotalus tigris )

The tiger rattlesnake (Crotalus tigris ) is a species of rattlesnakes (Crotalus ), their distribution is limited to the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona and the Mexican state of Sonora and the island of Tiburón in the Gulf of California.

Features

The tiger rattlesnake is a medium-sized rattlesnake with an average body length of about 80 centimeters. It has a relatively small head and a very large tail rattle.

The typical basic color is light gray, gray, blue-gray or pink, and they increasingly orange on the flanks or pink. The dorsal pattern consists of a series of dark gray or blue-gray cross- bar. The head is unmarked.

Distribution and habitat

The distribution of snake is restricted to the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona and the Mexican state of Sonora and the island of Tiburón in the Gulf of California.

The habitat of the serpent are dry and rocky areas within the desert region where mainly cacti and other succulents represent the vegetation.

Snake venom

The tiger rattlesnake produces only relatively small amounts of a very potent neurotoxic venom components, which resembles that of the Mojave rattlesnake (C. scutulatus ).
