Crown Entity

Crown Entity is the general term for a variety of state-owned enterprises or institutions in New Zealand. The Crown Entities are legally separate from the Crown as the supreme organ of the state, work independently, but are fiscally involved with in the state budget and are monitored and controlled by the competent ministers who are company legally registered as a shareholder. The entities are divided into five different categories and were in 2004 with the Crown Entities Act 2004 (Act, engl. Law for ) defined accordingly.

Crown Entity Categories

  • Autonomous Crown Entity (ACE ) - government policy must take into account when headed by a minister.
  • Independent Crown Entity (ICE) - is generally umabhängig of government policy.
