Crown of Augustus II the Strong

The Crown of Augustus II is a Polish - Saxon crown. August II was customize the crown because he was afraid because of the circumstances of his election in June 1697 that would deny him the previous royal insignia. Ultimately, the crown remained unused and is currently stored in the armory in Dresden.

The crown was made in 1697 by a native of Freiburg German goldsmith Johann Friedrich Klemm. The Saxon Elector Friedrich August I was 26-27. June 1697 have been selected in a competitive double election of parts of the Polish nobility and the Polish king; his name was King August II, after which he became known as Augustus the Strong. On the opposite side was a potential future Polish king, the French aristocrat François Louis de Bourbon, prince de Conti. Since August II shortly before his coronation as King of Poland succeeded with the help of monks, to get to the Polish crown jewels in Warsaw, including the recent Polish crown, he did not need at his coronation on 15 September 1697 newly -made crown. He kept as part of his private insignia in Dresden.
