Crown Point is a town on the eastern tip of the Essex County ( New York) in the Adirondack Park in the United States with a population of 2,024 ( Census 2010).

History

During the colonial period and during the Revolutionary War came to Crown Point has a strategic importance as it is the fortified position on the western shore of Lake Champlain, just 24 kilometers north of Fort Ticonderoga was thus just a day trip.

After the failure of the American invasion of Canada ( 1775) the place was the northernmost point under American control. During the British Saratoga campaign in 1777, the British General John Burgoyne stationed here a storehouse for the Battle of Ticonderoga.

Geography

The eastern city limits, the shores of Lake Champlain, is the border with Vermont (Addison County). A bridge of U.S. Highway 17 connects Crown Point and Vermont.

The village has an area of ​​212.1 km ². Of these, 197.5 km ² of land and 14.6 km ² water.

According to the 2000 census, Crown Point has 2,119 residents, 797 households, and 579 families. The population density is 10.7 inhabitants / km ².
