Crown Prosecution Service

The Crown Prosecution Service (German: prosecution service of the Crown; CPS ) is a non - ministerial government organization for England and Wales, which is directly accountable to Parliament. It is organized in 42 local districts, each district has its own Chief Crown Prosecutor.

The head of the Crown Prosecution Service ( Director of Public Prosecution, DPP) is the Attorney General for England and Wales responsible.

Tasks

The responsibilities of the CPS include the following, among others:

  • Disclosure earlier advice and information to the police
  • Decision on prosecution or other measures such as warning, reprimand, etc.
  • Ongoing review of each case
  • Revelation Affairs
  • Information for victims of crime on the progress of the case

The aim of the CPS is to promote the functioning, fairness and efficiency of the prosecution.
