Crownsville is a census -designated place in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States and is located about 35 kilometers northeast of Washington, DC and about 30 km south of Baltimore. The village has nearly 2,000 inhabitants.

An anecdote about Crownsville says that this place was selected by screenwriter Jeff Arch as the original venue for the film Sleepless in Seattle, whose main protagonist is working at a newspaper in nearby Baltimore. Through the feared bad marketability of the place name him but the title Formative Seattle was ultimately preferred.
