Croy is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Croy is on 642 m above sea level. M., 5 km south-west of Orbe and 16 km southwest of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The picturesque little town is only just a kilometer away from Romainmôtier, which is world famous for its abbey church. The scattered village extends in a valley widening of Nozon the Jura foothills.

The area of ​​4.5 km ² large municipality territory, which includes a section at the foot of the Jura. The south-western part of the municipality is crossed by Nozon which forms a 500 m wide Talniederung at Croy. At Croy include some individual farms. The neighboring towns of Croy are in the west and northwest Romainmôtier -Envy, northeast Bofflens, in the southeast Arnex -sur -Orbe and south La Sarraz. The exclave to the southwest of the community also borders to the west, north and east Romainmôtier -Envy and on the south by Moiry and Ferreyres.

Population

With 316 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Croy is one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 94.4 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 1.9 % and 1.5 % Italian- portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Croy amounted in 1850 to 268 residents in 1910 to 279 inhabitants. Thereafter, the population fluctuated throughout the 20th century between 240 and 270 only in recent years an increasing trend has been observed.

Economy

Traffic

History

The territory of Croy was inhabited very early. In Bellaires forest west of the Nozontals remains were found of iron-melting furnace from the Roman and the early Middle Ages. Since the Middle Ages Croy belonged to the monastery Romainmôtier. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village was part of the Kastlanei and bailiwick Romainmôtier. After the collapse of the ancien régime Croy belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Orbe.

Attractions

Croy possessed formerly a small chapel, which was destroyed in 1536. The village belonged to the parish always Romainmôtier. It has a village wood furnace in which at certain times all residents can bring dough ready to bake. In the center some lovely farmhouses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.

A natural attraction is the waterfall Cascade du Dard of Nozon. It lies on the path that leads along the Nozon of Croy to Romainmôtier.
