Crucible Theatre

The Crucible Theatre is part of a theater complex in the center of Sheffield in England. The complex was built in 1971 and next to the Crucible Theatre (980 seats) includes the Crucible Studio ( 400 seats).

History

In 1971 the Crucible Theatre was opened after two years of construction. In 1969 the architects Renton Howard and Wood was engaged and soon after construction began.

Since 1977, the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre will take place, causing the Crucible Theatre was known about England's borders. Thus, the Crucible is considered the " Cathedral of Snooker Sports." After a contract extension, the World Cup will be held until at least 2014 at the Crucible Theatre, but there are also considerations about the construction of a specially tailored to the needs of snooker hall, which would then be used instead of the Crucible.
