Economy

Cruz del Eje is almost entirely dependent on olive-growing and the associated edible oil industry. Furthermore, there are some livestock, viticulture and mining (especially quarries ). Until the 1970s it was still an important railway junction with large garages until the web Córdoba- Cruz del Eje was shut down. The route, known since the 1990s under the name Tren de las Sierras, is currently renewed. Completion was originally reckoned with in 2009, has been delayed; currently is the only route between Córdoba and Cosquín in operation. The closure led to a sharp economic decline, there is for a city of this size, a large number of slums ( villas miseria ).

10 km south lies the Cruz del Eje reservoir, which is one of the largest in the province, however, generating electricity for the region plays only a minor role.
