Crystal Palace Circuit

The Crystal Palace Circuit is a former race track in London's Crystal Palace district. The course was located on the grounds of the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

History

The race track was opened on 21 May 1927, a motorcycle race. The route was based on existing routes. Until 1937, the conversion route length was 1.6 km. During the work it was extended to 3 km. In the same year the International Imperial Trophy races took place here. This was recorded and sent by the BBC. This race is thus regarded as motorsports TV broadcasting.

During the Second World War, the race track was taken over by the UK MoD and shortened to 2.2 km. It was only from 1953 races were held here again. The last race was held in 1972.

In September 2007, the Tour of Britain cycle race was held at the Crystal Palace Circuit, the prologue in the frame.
