Crystal Palace F.C.

Crystal Palace ( officially: Crystal Palace Football Club, Crystal Palace means " Crystal Palace" ) - also known as The Eagles ( The Eagles ) - is an English football club from the capital, London. Since the 2013/2014 season he played in the FA Premier League, the English top league.

History

Crystal Palace was founded in 1905 on the Sydenham Hill. Today there is the National Sports Centre. During the First World War, the club was forced to leave his founding place and first moved to Herne Hill.

After a short time they moved in 1918 to The Nest on, which is opposite of today's venue Selhurst Park. At this time the club took 1920/21 part for the first time at the English league play and was the first master of the Third Division South. For the 1924/25 season the club went to Selhurst Park and rose again this year from the Third Division South.

There remained Crystal Palace until 1958 when they descended into the newly formed Fourth Division. In the years 1961, 1964 and 1969, the climbs were followed up in the First Division, where they remained four years to then descend back into the Third Division. In this period also saw one of the biggest success of the club's history, as Crystal Palace failed as a third division only in the semi-finals of the FA Cup 2-0 at Southampton FC. On the way, they beat teams such as Chelsea, Leeds United and Sunderland and thus reached the first third division almost the final.

In the years 1977 and 1979 under Terry Venables then Palace rose again in the First Division, where they remained for two years. In 1979, the club reached ascent on May 11 with 51 482 spectators against Burnley its previous attendance record. In 1989, the renewed rise in the First Division followed by the decisive victory in the final play-off game against Blackburn Rovers. In the following season, Palace reached by a 4-3 victory over Liverpool, the FA Cup final against Manchester United, which they lost until the replay on 17 May 1990.

The season 1990/91 was the most successful for the team, since you first won the ZDS Cup and finished the season in third place in the table. In 1993 the relegation from the Premier League, in which one ascended, however, immediately followed. 1995, they rose again and came back in 1997 with a 1-0 victory in the play-off final against Sheffield United in the English top flight back from you but again dismounted immediately. In 2000, the millionaire Simon Jordan took over the club. In 2004, the re- promotion to the Premier League. After just one season in 2005 it was, however, back to the second English League Football League Championship now called. There, the team finished second in the 2005/06 season in sixth place, thus reaching the play-offs for promotion to the Premier League, but failed in the first playoff round at Watford FC.

2006, the club established a twin club in the United States. Crystal Palace Baltimore in the USSF D2 Pro plays League, the second highest American League.

During the 2009/10 season, the club had to declare bankruptcy. He nevertheless continued to participate in the game operation of the Football League Championship. By the Association of Crystal Palace received a penalty in the form of a deduction of 10 points, but managed just avoid relegation.

In the 2012/13 season the club on May 27, 2013 succeeded in the play-off finals thanks to a 1-0 success (aet) against FC Watford promotion to the Premier League.

Trivia

The name derives from the exhibition building of the first World Exhibition in 1851, the Crystal Palace. This was dismantled after the exhibition and set up in Sydenham again.
