Crystal Palace National Sports Centre is a large sports and athletics stadium in Crystal Palace, a district of London.

The sports center was established in 1964, built in Crystal Palace Park near the former Crystal Palace, spent the 1936 landmark of the Great Exhibition. The center was also the main constituent of the former Grand Prix circuit of Crystal Palace. It is among the five largest sports centers in England and operated by the Company Greenwich Leisure Limited.

The athletics stadium has a seating capacity of 15,500, which can be temporarily increased to 24,000. The complex also includes a 50 -meter swimming pool, which was the only one in the British capital until the completion of the London Aquatics Centre for the 2012 Olympics.

Football

Today's Track and Field Stadium was the home of the English football club Crystal Palace, until its relocation in 1915. Stadium in the finals of the FA Cup were held from 1895 to 1914. Had the largest number of audience in its history the stadium at the final 1913 between Aston Villa and Sunderland AFC, when 121 219 fans squeezed into the stadium. Between 1897 and 1911, the English national football team played five matches in this stadium.

Rugby

On 2 December 1905, the very first game of the English rugby union team against New Zealand was held, which won the New Zealanders with 15:0. Until the late 1980s the rugby club Fulham RLFC played at the sports center.

Cricket

From 1898 to 1908, the existent in those years London County Cricket Club wearing his matches at the stadium. The club had many former world-class players in their ranks and played from 1900 to 1904 in the first English cricket league. After the backers got out, the club was disbanded in 1908.

Basketball

In the sports center is a basketball hall for 3,500 spectators. Currently plays the English team London Tower from the third highest league in the hall.

Motorsport

The Crystal Palace Race Circuit was a major component of today's area. Parts of the racetrack can still be admired in the area today. The circuit was opened in 1927. The first race for motorcycles took place on 21 May 1927. The route was 1.6 km long and went through the park. Until the demolition in 1974 Formula 2 were discharged Formula 3 and not for the World Cup belonging Formula 1 race on the track.
