The nuclear power plant in Crystal River is a nuclear power plant at Crystal River in Citrus County, Florida in the United States. It is the third block in the power plant complex in Crystal River. Units 1 and 2 are coal blocks, block 3 is the nuclear reactor and blocks 4 and 5 are coal blocks. The owner and operator of the nuclear power plant is the Progress Energy Corporation.

The reactor / power

The Crystal River nuclear power plant consists of a pressurized water reactor. This has a net electrical output of 838 MWe and a gross capacity of 890 MWe. It has two natural draft wet cooling towers.

Start up / shutdown

Construction of the power plant unit 3 of the power plant complex was on 25 September 1968. The reactor was first critically on 14 January 1977. He was first synchronized on January 30, 1977 with the mains and is since March 13, 1977 commercial operation. On 5 February 2013, the operating company, announced the reactor shut down since September 2009, completely shut down and want to zurückbauen. Instead, a gas-fired power plant will be built.
