ÄŒSD Class E 458.1

The ČSD Series E 458.1 (from 1988: 111 series ) is an electrical shunting of the former Czechoslovak State Railways ( ČSD ). The locomotives are an evolution of the previous type E 458.0 for the 3 kV DC system in the north and east of the former Czechoslovakia.

For the first time a thyristor for variable traction and speed control was implemented at a locomotive ČSD.

The locomotives arrived all at the ČD and are still in use.

The prototype E 457 0001 was divided in the 1990s and now scrapped.

Mechanical construction

In the basic design of the vehicle body of the previous series E 458.0 and 458.0 S has been taken to ensure standardization and interchangeability of the modules. The cab was placed in the middle to allow the driver to both directions of good visibility. On the roof of the cab is the pantographs. The locomotive has four traction motors suspended by per 153 kW, two of which are always connected in series. Each of said motor assemblies is controlled by a separate pulse transducer.
