ÄŒSD Class M 290.0

The M 290 001 and 002 were motor - railcars for the rapid transit of the Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD.

History

Were used, the vehicles as a quick connection between Prague and Bratislava Slovenská Strela as ( German: Slovak arrow). This line was completed in the 1930s runs regularly in 4 hours and 28 minutes.

With the outbreak of war in 1939, the cars were stored and no longer came later in long-distance transport. In 1953 (M 290 001 ) or 1960 ( M 290 002 ), the vehicles were retired.

The railcar 290 001 M stands today as a monument in front of the corporate museum of Tatra in Kopřivnice. On 8 January 2010, the Government of the Czech Republic decided to open the vehicle in the list of national cultural heritage on July 1, 2010.

Technical Features

Groundbreaking were the technical solutions of the railcar. Thus, the complete drive units were housed in the bogies. In the lower speed range, the performance of the two petrol engines was transmitted electrically, while at a speed of over 85 km / h then the engines were coupled directly to the drive axles.
