Csepel [' tʃɛpɛl ] ( German: Tschepele ) is the name of the twenty-first district ( XXIst district) in Budapest. He is the only district on the island of the same name.

Location and data

The 21st District is located in the northern part of the Danube island Csepel. On the opposite bank lies to the west of the 22nd District, in the east of the 9th, 20th and 23rd District. In the southern part of the island it borders on the place Szigetszentmiklós belonging to the agglomeration of Budapest. Traffic

Csepel is connected to the suburban railway on Boráros tér with the center of Budapest. Bus number 179 from the bridge Közvágóhíd, or the lines 35, 36, 148 and 151 run over the bridge Gubacsi - híd east to Kőbánya - Kispest Soroksár - Újtelep and Pesterzsébet. The 138er bus connects the island with Budatétény district on the western bank of the Danube.

By car Csepel is út from the west over the Szabadkikötő accessible. From the south the Rákóczi Ferenc út leads to the center of the district. Outside the city boundary runs M0 (Hungary ) Motorway, which runs also on the island.

History

In the 19th century Csepel into a major industrial area was. In particular, there developed a center for heavy industry. Within several workers' housing, but also allotments arose. On January 1, 1950 Csepel was incorporated along with many other communities in the capital.

Economy

In addition to traditional metal processing plants there are, among others, a paper mill today. The Tamariska - domb at Királyerdő is the only protected area. Since 1999 it is under the protection of the capital. Sports

Football: The football team of the SC Csepel was especially successful from the 1940s to the 1970s. At this time the club won several championships.
