CSI 300 Index

The CSI 300 is the free-float of corresponding capitalization-weighted stock index. It includes the 300 largest mainland Chinese shares, ie companies that are listed in Shanghai or Shenzhen (so-called A- shares). The CSI 300 is since August 4, 2008 calculated by the China Securities Index Company Ltd.. , Starting from a base value of 1,000 points at December 31, 2004.

For inclusion in the index certain requirements must be met. These include

  • A listing of at least three months on the stock exchanges Shanghai or Shenzhen, where the daily trading volume is not in the TOP 30 of all A- shares
  • No signs of high volatility in the price development or suspected price manipulation
  • Belonging to the top 300 A- shares by market capitalization
  • Belonging to the most liquid 50 percent of all A -shares

An investment in the CSI 300 is possible via the WISE CSI 300 China Tracker ETF for private investors. In Germany, this ETF is used as an indirect instrument for investing in the Chinese A- shares, which are otherwise only reserved for residents and some large financial investors from investing restrictions.
