CST-100

CST -100 ( CST for " Crew Space Transportation " ) is a toy in the development of manned spacecraft from Boeing.

Development

The development of the CST -100 spacecraft has been, or is supported by NASA under the programs COTS, CCDev and CCiCap, the aid for private companies providing to ensure the transport of equipment, goods and crews to the International Space Station. The spacecraft is to serve the people transport to the ISS and the planned orbital Complex Construction of private space company Bigelow Aerospace. As the Atlas V launch vehicle is provided, which is marketed by United Launch Alliance, a joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Boeing. A first manned test flight is currently scheduled for no earlier than the year 2015, but rather 2016.

Construction

As with Apollo is the spaceship of a team and a service module.

The cone-shaped crew module has a diameter of 4.5 meters and be able to accommodate a crew of seven people. The astronauts sit in two rows one above the other, four in the bottom three on the top. Is the coupling adapter at the top.

The service module is divided into a center, and six outer sections. In the outer sections are the tanks. The four main engines allow not only train changes, but should also be able, in an emergency situation when you start to move the spacecraft from the danger area, as is to be dispensed on a rescue rocket. As fuel for the engines a hypergolic mixture of fuel should be used to react with the oxidizing and reducing agents with each other spontaneously, when they are brought into contact.

Flight profile

The spacecraft should be able to fly 60 hours autonomy. The aerodrome space stations are to be achieved within 24 hours after the start, with a reserve of 24 hours. Docked to a space station to a CST -100 spacecraft can stay up to 210 days in space. On landing, it should first be slowed by parachutes and cushioned by airbags, on the mainland, on dry lake Fit. Alternatively, should also be possible a splashdown in the ocean. The CST -100 is supposed to be up to ten times reusable.
