Ctenidium (mollusc)

Ctenidia ( gr Ctena, comb ) are original respiratory system of the molluscs ( Mollusca ), which at the snails ( gastropods ) only in some species in the group of prosobranch ( Prosobranchia ) can be found.

The ctenidia are paired Fiederkiemen each consisting of a stem with several gill filaments and are within the mantle cavity, where they are responsible for gas exchange (eg, oxygen).
