Ctenophryne
Geayi Ctenophryne
Ctenophryne is an amphibian genus of the family -mouthed.
Description
The pupils are vertical. The tongue is large, emarginate behind and at the edge can be lifted freely. Palate teeth are missing. There are two transverse rugae present, of which the posterior is prior to the throat entrance and is comb- shaped. The eardrum is invisible. The fingers and toes are broadened at the tips. Are thickened bony phalanges At its distal end. The fingers are free, toes are webbed. However, these do not intervene between the metatarsals of the 4th and 5th toe. The Praecoracoide and Omosternum missing. The sternum is a cartilage plate. The transverse processes of the Sacralwirbels are excessively broadened.
Occurrence
The genus occurs in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, French Guiana and Amazonia.
System
The genus was first described in 1904 by François Ctenophryne Mocquard. It includes six types:
- Ctenophryne aequatorialis ( Peracca, 1904)
- Ctenophryne aterrima ( Günther, 1901)
- Ctenophryne carpish ( Lehr, Rodriguez & Córdova, 2002)
- Ctenophryne geayi Mocquard, 1904
- Ctenophryne minor doubts & Myers, 1989
