Cubal

Province

Cubal is a town and Municipio in the province of Benguela in Angola.

It is located about 150 km east of the city of Benguela and 200 km west of Huambo, Nova Lisboa former. The size of the municipios is 4794 km ² with 252,000 inhabitants. To the north it borders on the Municipio of Bocoio, on the east by the Ganda, to the south of the Chongorói and to the west by Caimbambo.

It is drained by the Rio Cubal, from which it takes its name. In the area there are numerous sisal fields, which played a significant role in the 20th century because sisal was exported in large quantities.

The Benguela railway reached Cubal 1908. 1974 was inaugurated a new variant, the Cubal with the port city of Lobito related what the distance from 197 to 153 km shorter. After many years of interruption, this variant was re-consecrated in 2004. Currently, three trains per week.
