Cuboid bone

The cuboid bone (also cuboid, lat cuboid or Os tarsal quartum ) is one of the tarsal bones and is located between the heel bone ( calcaneus ) and the 4th and 5th metatarsals.

On the front (distal ) side of the cube leg two are separated by a groove joint surfaces for the 4th and 5th metatarsal bones, with which the cuboid bone forms the outer tarsometatarsal joint.

There is an articular surface for the outer sphenoid At the Fußinnenrand looking for (media) surface. Sometimes here is also an articular surface for the scaphoid.

The location for Fußaußenrand (lateral ) side of the cube leg is slightly concave and short. In this area, the tendon of the long muscle fibula is deflected by the Fußaußenrand.

On the bottom ( plantar ) surface there is a small bar-shaped cusps, the tuberosity cuboidei. On the cusp set deep layers of the sole long band ( plantar ligament longum ) to. Prior to the tuberosity ( distal) is a tendon groove ( sulcus musculi tendinis peronaei longi ) for the tendon of the long peroneal muscle (musculus peroneus longus ). These tendons furrow is closed by superficial layers of the sole long tape, the move from the tuberosity to the bases of the metatarsal bones, to a tunnel. The tendon of the long peroneal muscle runs here in a tendon sheath, which is only for certain foot positions in the furrow. The tuberosity is partially covered with cartilage and tendon sheath slides on her.
