Cudell was a German manufacturer of automobiles.

Company History

The company Cudell Motor Company was founded in 1897 by Max Cudell in Aachen for the production of automobiles under licenses from De Dion -Bouton. 1899 lived the metal goods producer Max Cudell, owner of Cudell & Co. Krefelderstraße 2 in Aachen. 1905, the company went bankrupt. 1908, the production was finally stopped.

Rolling stock

Initially, models were produced by De Dion -Bouton license. The first model was a tricycle, in which the individual wheel was in front. The driver sat on a bicycle seat and steered with a handlebar. The single cylinder engine developed 1.75 hp and was mounted in the rear. 1899 was followed by the first four-wheeled vehicle under license of the De Dion -Bouton Voiturette Vis -à-vis the motor 3.5 hp car with a water-cooled single-cylinder engine with 402 cc displacement in the rear, which carried 3.5 HP. 1904 brought Cudell under the direction of Karl Slevogt first own development the 16/20 hp four-cylinder engine and 2554 cc displacement out. 1905 followed the Phoenix 35/40 hp four-cylinder, 6100 cc displacement and 45 hp performance, there should be a Double Phaeton and Sedan. After the bankruptcy in 1905 only a few vehicles were produced.

In the U.S., the air-cooled 16 hp four-cylinder with four-speed transmission, shaft drive, Holz-/Stahl-Fahrgestell with 1892 mm wheelbase and tonneau body for 5 persons was offered in 1904. The vehicle cost immodest U.S. $ 4500 and was also available with a water-cooled four-cylinder with 22 hp. The representation had Clodio & Widmayer at 10 West 33rd Street in New York.

Cudells world travel

Engineer Max Cudell was with Dr. Lehweß from London in 1902 in his cars Passe Partout - on world tour. Initially had problems limit causes a delay in the drive. Their arrival in Russia was late.
