Cuélebre

The Cuélebre is a huge, winged, snake-like dragon of the Asturian and Cantabrian mythology. He lives in caves, guarded treasures in it and keeps Xana, the nymph of the mountains of northern Spain as prisoners.

Even though they are immortal, aging of the Cuélebre. Their scales are thick and impenetrable with time. Your paralyzed wings grow with time in the body. Mostly they are lying around motionless and moving only to eat cattle or humans. You can kill the Cuélebre by giving him a red-hot stone or bread to eat with baked- pins. From his spit is said that it is transformed into a magical stone that can cure many diseases.

During the midsummer festival, which is a magical night in Asturian and Cantabrian folklore, brave men can Cuélebre defeat ( as the spells that night not act ), Xana and free to marry and to take the treasure in itself. In some areas of Cantabria is said that on the night of St. Bartholomew increases the strength of the monster and it leaves out all his anger on the population in revenge. If the Cuélebre is older and bulkier, he must flee from Asturias - before its wings are useless because of its high weight - and he flies to Mar Cuajada, a paradise that should lie behind the sea.
