ÄŒukarica

Čukarica ( Чукарица ) is a municipality of Belgrade and covers an area of ​​approximately 15,650 hectares and counts some 160,000 inhabitants.

His name was named after Čukareva mehana ( Cukar - inn ) and Cukar česma ( Cukar Fountain ), which were located in the vicinity of present-day Ada Ciganlija the district. In a text written by King Petar I. Decree of 30 December 1911, the village Čukarica was separated from the municipality Žarkovo and declared a special municipality. This is the Main reason why December 30 is celebrated as the day of the district. In the early postwar years was the Čukarica VII Rayon, but in 1950 this was the status of a municipality again.

His town festival - the Holy Trinity - celebrates the district Čukarica 50 days after Easter ( floating holiday ).

Population

The municipality has an estimated population of 175 057 (31 December 2005 ), which makes Čukarica 's second - most populous municipality of Belgrade ( Novi Beograd ). However, the district is also the fastest growing (compared about 1.05 % per year). Despite the rural sector, the community is very densely populated with about 1118 inhabitants per square kilometer.
