Cumberland County (Kentucky)

Cumberland County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Burkesville, named after Samuel Burks, an early settler in the area. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in southern Kentucky, is bordered to the south by the State of Tennessee and has an area of 805 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. It borders in Kentucky clockwise to the following counties: Adair County, Russell County, Clinton County, Monroe County and Metcalfe County.

History

Cumberland County was formed on December 14, 1796 from parts of Green County. It was named after the Cumberland River.
