Cumberland County (Tennessee)

Cumberland County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Crossville.

Geography

The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Tennessee, is located in the north about 80 miles from Kentucky and has an area of ​​1774 square kilometers, of which nine square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Fentress County, Morgan County, Roane County, Rhea County, Bledsoe County, Van Buren County, White County and Putnam County.

History

Cumberland County was formed on November 16, 1855 from parts of Bledsoe, Morgan, Putnam, Rhea, Roane, Van Buren and White County. It was named after the Cumberland Mountains, which extend from central Tennessee through the eastern corner of Kentucky and Virginia.
