Cumhall

Cumhall mac Basna is the name of a legendary figure from the Finn cycle of Celtic mythology of Ireland. He is the leader of the Fianna.

Mythology

Cumhall mac Basna is the father of Fionn mac Cumhaill and the unwanted son- mac ( in other versions also the son ) of Tadg Nuadat. This refuses to marry his daughter Muireann Muncháem because he is threatened, according to a prophecy of his grandson disaster. To advertise Muireann but some heroes, including Cumhall mac Basna. When he is rejected, he kidnapped the girl. Tadg calls King Conn Cétchathach to help and the battle will ( Castleknock, County Dublin) at Caisleán Cnucha instead. In the story about the history of the battle, Fotha Catha Cnucha ( "The cause of the Battle of Cnucha " ), is also reported that King Cathair Mór handed over the hills of Almu ( Dun Aillinne Hill Fort, County Kildare ) to the Druids Nuada mac Aichi. This hill is later known as the residence of Nuada's great-grandson of Fionn mac Cumhaill.
