Cummings C. Chesney

Cummings Colineer Chesney ( born October 28, 1863 in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, † November 27, 1947 ) was an American electrical engineer.

After he had acquired his Bachelor of Science in 1885 at the Pennsylvania State College, he first taught mathematics and chemistry at Doylestown seminar. In 1888 he went as a chemist and engineer to the laboratory of William Stanley Jr. in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and followed Stanley in the following year to the United States Lighting Co in Newark, a subsidiary of the Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co.. They founded in 1890 in Pittsfield, MA, the Stanley Electrical Manufacturing Co. When this in 1902 by General Electric acquired, Chesney was promoted to vice president and chief engineer. They set up in California, the longest high-voltage line in the world with 40,000 to 60,000 volts.

In February 1922 he was "For early Developments in alternating current transmission. " by the American Institute of Electrical Engineers ( AIEE ) awarded the Edison Medal.
