Cupid's bow

The Cupid's bow, synonymously also called Kupidobogen, is the arc-shaped boundary of the Oberlippenrots; this includes the lower end of the philtrum (This is in a sense the " handle " of the bow ). The name is based on the similarity in shape to the bow hunting weapon; because the lip is an erogenous zone, a connection went to the Roman gods Amor - love - or Cupid, of desire (both the Roman equivalent of the Greek god Eros ) in the name.

We distinguish the shapes of the tapered V-shaped Kupidoschwinge and the rounded U-shaped Kupidobogen. In various malformations - for example, fetal alcohol syndrome - can the Cupid's bow are missing.
