Cupra Marittima

Cupra Marittima is a town ( comune ) with 5400 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche. The community is located about 29 kilometers northeast of Ascoli Piceno on the Adriatic Sea.

History

The municipal area was already inhabited in Roman times. From the High Middle Ages the settlement as Marano is known. Since 1863, the community bears its present name.

Traffic

Through the community, the Autostrada A14 leading from Bologna to Southern Italy along the Adriatic Sea. Parallel to it here the coastline along the Strada Statale 16 Adriatica. The train station of Cupra Marittima is situated on the route from Ancona to Lecce ( ferrovia Adriatica ).
