Cureggia

Cureggia is a district of the city of Lugano in Lugano Circle East, in the district of Lugano in the Swiss canton of Ticino. It is located on a terrace of Monte Boglia above the core area of Lugano. Until the incorporation into the city of Lugano in 2004 it formed an independent political community. In 2000 it counted 112 inhabitants.

History

Cureggia was first mentioned in 1329 as Curezia. 1336 owned by the Bishop of Como real estate here. The Chapel of San Gottardo dates from the 1561. Cureggia lived on mountain farming. Many residents fled the impoverished circumstances by emigration.
