Mode
Both tournaments were held in two phases. In the first phase, between 11 and 18 February 2002 has been replaced in the round-robin system, each team against each of the nine other teams. Three sessions were held each day, one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. The four-point best teams qualified for the semi-finals. In the event of a tie multiple teams tie-breaks were held on February 19.
The winners of the two semi-final matches in the final of the Olympic champion determined, the two losing semi-finalists the winner of the bronze medal.
