Curnier

Curnier is a southern French village with 196 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Drôme in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Curnier lies about 10 km east of Nyons downstream strongly widening at the confluence of Ennuye and Eygues in itself, characterized by vineyards and lavender growing valley between the mountain ranges of the Baronnies in the south and the Diois in the north.

History

Even in prehistoric times, the area was settled around Curnier. In the Bronze Age was located here an oppidum.

The place was originally a fief of the lords of Mévouillon, in the 14th century, rule passed to the Principality of Orange.

Since the early 1960s, population growth in the community Curnier remained in the late 1970s on average rising on average, despite a slight decline in population.

  • Curnier has a well-preserved old town with the remains of a castle.
  • The parish church of the village dates from the 19th century.

Economy and infrastructure

The main industry in Curnier is agriculture, are grown in the lavender, olives, wine and fruit. In the livestock sheep and poultry are determinative. Another important agricultural product of the region is honey.
