Curt Engelhorn

Curt Engelhorn Glover ( born May 25, 1926 in Munich) was until 1997 co-partner of the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Mannheim.

Curt Engelhorn is the great grandson of Friedrich Engelhorn, founder of BASF. He is the son of an American mother ( Anita Schlemmer Engelhorn ) and a German father ( Curt Engelhorn Senior). He studied in Austin, Texas Chemical Engineering. In 1955, he joined the former C. F. Boehringer & Söhne GmbH and reached within five years as managing director. Under his leadership, grew to hitherto somewhat medium-sized companies to global corporations.

In 1985 he moved his residence to Bermuda. There he founded a holding company, the Corange Ltd.. , The Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) he was. In this holding, he and the other partners contributed their shares of Boehringer Mannheim. Curt Engelhorn headed Boehringer Mannheim henceforth from Bermuda. In 1990 he retired from business operations and was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Corange Ltd..

1997, the shareholders sold their shares in the Corange Ltd.. at Hoffmann -La Roche for around 19 billion DM, to Curt Engelhorn accounted for according to its 40 % stake to approximately 8 billion DM by the interposition of the Corange Ltd.. thus succeeded Curt Engelhorn and the other shareholders, to collect the sales proceeds, without controlling for the German exchequer incurred.

He is the founder of the Curt - Engelhorn Foundation for the Reiss - Engelhorn Museums, the financial support of about 20 million euros the previous Reiss Museum in Mannheim, then on the Reiss - Engelhorn Museums.

With a fortune of 6.3 billion U.S. dollars Engelhorn is considered one of the richest Germans.
