Curve (Band)

Curve was founded in 1990, British alternative rock / electronica band consisting of guitarist and bassist Dean Garcia and the singer-songwriter Toni Halliday.

History

Dean Garcia (born 1958 ) and Toni Halliday ( b. 1964 ) learned about Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics know. Garcia was 1983-1984 bassist of the Eurythmics live band and also appeared on two studio albums Touch ( 1983) and Be Yourself Tonight ( 1985) with. Toni Halliday was at this time as a solo artist at Stewart's label Anxious Records. Halliday and Garcia founded the mid-1980s, first the short-lived band State of Play, pursued in the meantime continue their solo projects until 1990 they finally came together as a long-term Curve again.

Curve 1991 published three acclaimed EPs in Anxious Records that were successful, particularly in the independent charts. The debut album Doppelganger was able to place in the UK album charts in March 1992. This was followed by an extensive tour, in which Halliday and Garcia of the two guitarists Debbie Smith ( Echobelly later ) and Alex Mitchell, as well as by drummer Steve Monti were supported (formerly of Ian Dury and the Blockheads ). Among the highlights of Curves live concerts include a performance at the Glastonbury Festival in 1992, a joint U.S. tour with The Jesus and Mary Chain and Spiritualized ®.

Curves second studio LP Cuckoo 1993 became uncompromising and less catchy, and gave the band no particular chart success. The failure and the adjoining exhausting tour led in 1994 to the decision to dissolve the band.

Back in 1996, returned back with the EP Curve Pink Girl With the Blues. The following year they released with Chinese Burn, an advance single from the new album Come Clean, which was released in 1998. The LP had stronger influences in electronic music than the previous albums. The commercial success of the LP encouraged Halliday and Garcia continue. This was followed by smaller live gigs in Europe.

With Come Clean in 2001 followed a published exclusively on the Internet compilation entitled Open Day at the Hate Fest, and, in the same year, the album poison. Followed in 2001 with The New Adventures of Curve a turn, available only on the Internet LP, as well as numerous other tracks that are available for download on the homepage of the group.

In 2004, the band released the double CD The Way of Curve a retrospective. 2005 Toni Halliday said their final farewell to Curve.

Music

Largely characterized the music of Curve are accompanied by hard beats, tightly layered, distorted electric guitar tracks, which are in contrast to Halliday's intense, sometimes ethereal vocals. The lyrics are mostly of alienation, addiction, lust, romance and dwindling love. Curves debut album was compared by critics with his then-popular shoegazing bands such as Lush, Ride or My Bloody Valentine, whereas they were attributed to the Industrial from the second album variety of styles ranging. In Come Clean and the later recordings dominated the electronic component, whereas the once significant guitar sounds hardly occur.
